28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Part 2) – Release Date, Parents Guide & IMAX vs. Dolby Review
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Part 2) – Release Date, Parents Guide & IMAX vs. Dolby Review
⚠️ Parents Warning: Rated R (USA) / 18 (UK). This movie contains extreme gore, intense zombie violence, and pervasive language. It is NOT suitable for children.
In my opinion, The rage virus is back, and so is the franchise that changed zombie movies forever. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have returned to unleash a new trilogy, starting with 28 Years Later.
But the release schedule is unusual. Unlike typical franchises that wait years between sequels, Part 2: The Bone Temple is hitting theaters almost immediately. Fans in the US and UK are confused about the timeline, the cast, and who is directing which movie.

Best Format to Watch: IMAX, Dolby, or Standard?
This movie was filmed using a mix of High-End Digital Cameras and iPhone 15 Pros (a franchise tradition to create a "gritty" look). This makes choosing a theater tricky.
| FORMAT RANKING | WHY IT IS GOOD/BAD |
|---|---|
|
#1 WINNER IMAX (Laser) |
Best Audio Experience. The "Rage" sound effects and John Murphy's iconic score are massive. IMAX speakers make the jump scares terrifying. The gritty visuals look huge on the expanded screen. |
|
#2 VISUALS Dolby Cinema |
Best Contrast. This movie has many dark, night-time scenes in the "Bone Temple." Dolby Vision prevents these scenes from looking grey or muddy. |
|
#3 AVOID Standard / Drive-In |
Not Recommended. The "shaky cam" style of this movie can look blurry on cheap screens. You will miss the details in the dark scenes. |
Parents Guide: Is it Safe for Kids?
Absolutely NOT. Unlike Marvel movies, this is a brutal horror film.
- Gore: Extreme. Eye-gouging, biting, dismemberment, and piles of "bones" are central to the plot.
- Intensity: The "Infected" run fast. The tension is relentless and will cause nightmares for younger viewers.
- Language: Over 50 uses of the F-word.
- Age Recommendation: 17+ Only.
Cast: Is Cillian Murphy in Part 2?
Yes. Cillian Murphy returns as Jim. However, the cast expands to include:
- Jodie Comer (The Survivor)
- Ralph Fiennes (The Cult Leader)
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson (The Soldier)
